Learn Swedish Certified Translation from the Pros

Swedish language appears very similar to Danish and Norwegian so a translator with good knowledge of any of these languages can understand the other two pretty decently, however it is not  effortlessly translated. Swedish language has no grammatical cases; things get a little heated when translators are working on a Swedish document. Working on Swedish certified translation becomes even more difficult because Swedish did not become Sweden’s official language until the New Language Law of 2009.

In Swedish language we use the Latin alphabets with the addition of three more that come after Z. These are Å/å, Ä/ä, and Ö/ö. Swedish is pretty much the only language Germanic language that does not have many loan words. And if there are any loan words, they are from French and German language. It is only recently that the Swedish language loaned words from the English vocabulary.

Did you know that Swedish Language does not have a proper word for “please?” If you want to be polite, add thanks at the end of the sentence.

Certified translation services in Swedish can be a little daunting, so when working on it, make sure to remember these:

  • Although, it is possible to create new words using the compounding system, however, such words are very ungainly and unattractive. Plus, they are too unattractive and unprofessional for the certified documents, like produktionsstyrningssystemsprogramvaruuppdatering which roughly means “production controller system software update.”
  • “W” is not used in the Swedish language, “v” is used for words like “Vad” which means “what” in Swedish. However, it is used as “w” in foreign names and words.
  • Swedish also has 9 vowels, so remember that while translating. These are a, e, I, o, u, y, å, ä and ö.
  • Colon “:” is used to make abbreviations of certain words. For example, in Swedish language, “S:t” is used to abbreviate Saint.

If you are attached to a certified translation company, you would have proper guidance. If you are not, taking advice and help from an experienced translator will help you out. Once you are done with your translation project, ask your experienced friend to proofread it for you. However, joining a translation company would be better because they will have the tools and resources to help you out in tight deadlines.
